Bacon Academy is Colchester's public high school, serving students in grades 9-12.
Bacon Academy began, as most enduring notions of quality begin, as a vision. In 1803, Pierpoint Bacon donated $35,000, and the vision that would become this exceptional institution began to flourish, and with it, the qualities of respect and pride which would become synonymous with Bacon Academy. Of course, these are concepts that one must work toward with diligence and resolution. From 1803 until 1962, those grains of respect and pride were fostered and honed and allowed to develop at the "old" Bacon Academy, and then in 1963, in the building that would later become the Colchester Intermediate School and William J. Johnston Middle School.
As the years progressed, so did that commitment toward absolute excellence that has become tradition at Bacon Academy. In September 1993, students and faculty began their pursuit of excellence in a brand new building. Although the physical structure -- the bricks and mortar -- was new, the students and faculty entering the "new" Bacon did so with the powerful and reliable hands of previous generations resting firmly on their shoulders, and the quiet voice of history whispering to them to prove the way.
Bacon Academy is a vibrant and time-honored institution whose past and whose present illuminate the indiscernible but certain road to the future with fervent optimism and an ardent devotion to excellence.
