A Letter from Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to CES! For most of you, Colchester Elementary School is the beginning of your child(ren)’s education. Our staff is thrilled to be building the educational foundation upon which your children grow. CES is a happy, welcoming school in which your children will be nurtured as they embark on their academic careers. We welcome you as partners in your child’s learning and hope you will be a familiar face at CES.

Our school services grades K-2, and is home to the Colchester Early Childhood Program, which is the district's preschool program, as well as Head Start and Early Head Start. Our staff is talented and specifically trained at the early intervention and primary level. Best practices are implemented as we ensure that your children receive both the social and academic curricula.

In addition to creating a welcome, thriving community for the students, we are incorporating the Common Core State Standards to educate your children. The CCSS define what all students are expected to know and be able to do. CES teachers and administrators have begun to assume responsibility of implementing the Common Core. We will continue to work collaboratively to implement these standards by creating and implementing skill-specific lessons, and using cutting-edge materials and assessments to monitor student progress. Our staff will be focusing on ensuring that we are a climate of professional learning, as we believe that it is best practice to be life-long learners.

Your child is our top priority and we look forward to continuing to work together. Please remember to encourage your child to read at home.  By modeling good reading habits and getting excited about what you are reading and learning your child will be sure to follow.

We value your presence during all school events and hope to provide a variety of opportunities to help us connect with your child and family. Educational research shows that one of the most important characteristics of an effective school is building a strong home-school relationship. CES welcomes your involvement and seeks to create strong home-school relationships. Have a terrific year!
