Connecticut has adopted standards in reading and math aligned with other states across the nation. Standards are designed to provide teachers and parents with a common understanding of what students are expected to know and be able to do at each grade level. Consistent standards provide appropriate benchmarks for all students and a clear and consistent path for teachers as we prepare children to be college and career ready. The adoption of the same standards across states ensures that all students receive similar content no matter where they live. Testing of this content will occur yearly.
Colchester administrators and teachers have been studying the standards, attending professional development, and working together to transform the curriculum and adjust to the changes in content and process. As a result, you will see changes in the topics your child learns, as compared to previous years.
