A Note to the Office
For your convenience, you may print our school's A Note to the Office form. This form is helpful to parents and the school office for several different reasons, which you may fill out specifically to suit your individual needs and keep us well-informed.

Career Exploration Program
Occasionally in May, WJJMS holds its Career Day. Several people in a variety of careers with a varied degree of education and training come to speak about their works to our Grade eight students.  Career Day is a great opportunity to give back to the community by inspiring our younger residents in hopes that they may choose a path that would suit their individual needs and interests, for their futures. Participants are invited for refreshments immediately following. If you'd like to inquire about Career Day, please call Meg Lewis at 860.537.2313.

Digital Backpack
Each Friday, the Digital Backpack page is published with links to upcoming school event information, announcements and/or community flyers. A global email is sent to parent and guardians with a link to our Digital Backpack page where you may select what you'd like to see more information about to stay current with what is happening at WJJMS and in our community. We print the Digital Backpack for families who prefer to have hardcopies and hand them to the students to take home. If you would like to sign up for this service, please call our office at 860.537.2313.

Fifth Grade Walking Tour
Students who will be transitioning to WJJMS from grade five have an opportunity each year to visit our school in June during their regular school day, where they meet our administration, all grade six Academic & Applied Academic teachers, travel to classrooms and view other common areas guided by a few of our current grade six students and the WJJMS School Counselors.

Meet & Greet New Family Breakfast
Each September we hold a Meet & Greet for families new to Colchester. It's a wonderful opportunity for parents/guardians and their children to get acquainted with members of the school and town community. Representatives from the Parks & Recreation Department, Colchester Police and Fire  Departments, Department of Children and Families, Youth Services Bureau, PTO, and WJJMS Administrators and Staff are all on hand.

Meet The Team
A few days before school starts, teams invite students to come and visit their classrooms to get more acquainted with the general areas that they will be frequenting. Grade six students are assisted with lockers at that time.

Open House
Parents have an opportunity to meet with teachers to learn about their curricular plans for the school year within two weeks after the start of the school year. Come and tour your child's classrooms. The PTO also hosts a membership drive and at times have Puma Wear available for purchase.

Peer Mediators
Do you like to help  others solve their problems?  Think about becoming a peer mediator!  Peer mediators learn how to resolve conflicts, using peaceful means.  They are taught how to listen to both sides of an issue and then help others resolve it.  Are you interested?  Send an email to Ms. Graber, or come see her in room 221 for more information

Picture Day
Picture Day usually takes place within the first week of school. All WJJMS students are required to have their photo taken regardless of whether or not they will be purchasing a package. Picture retakes are  generally set for mid-October. For Grade 8, a Panoramic photo is taken of the entire grade and available to purchase as well.

Team Placement letters are mailed to parents/guardians in the third week of August.  Our placement procedures are designed to match students to appropriate learning environments.  We make the placement decisions based on extensive knowledge of teacher style, classroom design, student needs, and information shared by parents.  We encourage parent feedback regarding any special consideration that should be made concerning placement or perceptions of appropriate learning environment. The due date for the Parent Input form is generally mid-May. Click here for the 2018 - 19 Parent Input form.

PowerSchool Parent Portal
Welcome to PowerSchool!  The Portal opens mid-August. You may access the PowerSchool Parent Portal from our Home Page at any time. PowerSchool helps our school access and maintain student, staff and schedule information.  PowerSchool is a database application that runs on a server, which is the center of your child's information system.  PowerSchool uses the Internet to facilitate student information management and communication among school administrators, teachers and parents.

The PowerSchool Parent Portal is a tool that is integrated into the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) that is specifically developed for parents and students.  The PowerSchool Parent Portal gives parents access to information including attendance, grades and detailed assignment descriptions, and school bulletins.  Everyone stays connected:  students stay on top of assignments, parents are able to participate more fully in their student's progress, and teachers can use their grade book to make decisions on what information they want to share with parents and students. See the PowerSchool page for the instructions to Create an Account and the Apps directions.

Puma News
We publish our WJJMS Puma News monthly, where you may read about current student activities and achievements, view notes from our administrators and staff, and learn about future events and festivities within our school community.  Our Puma News link is included in our weekly Digital Backpack. However, if you'd like a hard-copy, please call our office at 860 537 2313. You may also view our Puma News editions by clicking on our Puma News page at any time.

Strategic School Profile
For detailed information about our school, please read our Strategic School Profile.

Steppin' up to Sixth
Generally the first two days of school, grade 6 teams and students partake in a program called Steppin' up to Sixth where powerschool, chrome book expectations, google classroom utilization and school-year expectations/adventures are discussed. The teachers blend students from both teams to teach these important points while creating whole grade comradery.

Student Information
If you need to fill out a new Student Information form or make amendments, you can call our office at 860.537.2313 to update us or send in a new form with your child. We also have copies available in our office.
