At Jack Jackter, we provide a comprehensive literacy program incorporating the five reading areas of Phonemic Awareness and Phonics (as needed) as well as Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension. In grades 3 and 4, we have implemented a program that integrates the CT Core Standards which are modeled through the use of our core reading anthology. In grade 5, a combination of the core anthology as well as Readers' Workshop are used to teach key comprehension strategies. Additionally, writing is taught using the Units of Writing Program by Teachers' College.
It’s our mission at JJIS to ensure that all students are capable, independent readers and writers. The reading team provides support to students when needed so all students successfully reach their personal learning goals.
