Dear Parents and Families of Colchester,

It is with great sadness that I write this message to you regarding the horrific events that occurred today in Uvalde County, Texas. At least 14 students and one teacher were fatally shot by a lone gunman at Robb Elementary School, a tragedy that unfortunately hits too close to home for our Connecticut community.  Every person responds differently to these events.  We will be making our counselors, social workers and school psychologists available to support any student or staff member who is in need. If you need assistance speaking to your student about these events, I encourage you to make use of the following resource.

National Association of School Psychologists

Rest assured that safety is our top priority for students and staff in Colchester. Our administration, School Resource Officer, and security teams will be discussing options to ascertain if increased security is necessary. Our primary concern is always the safety of our students. Tragedies such as these are unfortunately all too common in this day and age. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and community of Uvalde County.

Sincerely,

Dr. Thomas Y. McDowell
Interim Superintendent of Schools
