Medication Policy 5141.21
Connecticut State Law requires a written medication order from a physician for any medication to be given in school. This includes prescription medication as well as over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol or Advil. The order is valid for the school year only, and must be renewed each year as needed.
- All medication must be brought to school by the parent/guardian. Students are not allowed to carry medication to or from school or take unsupervised medication at any time, including while one field trips. In the absence of the school nurse, a teacher or principal may administer medication.
- Medication must be in the original pharmacy bottle labeled with: the child 's name, name of medication, dosage and route of the medication, and the time it is to be given. No loose medication will be accepted.
- The nurse's office has a supply of acetaminophen (Tylenol equivalent) and ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil equivalent). All other medication must be supplied by the parent.
- Unused medication must be collected by a parent or guardian before summer break. Any remaining medication will be discarded.
